International Women’s Day 2022

Today I thought I would pay tribute to the strong women of my extended family in homage to International Women’s Day celebrations.

To my Nanny Shirley, you created my passion for baking. We spent many hours whilst i was a child reading ‘The Dairy Book Of Home Cookery’ working through rock buns, jam tarts, scones, fairy cakes and so much more. These skills have served me well in my career and truly inspired me to create authentic traditional baked goods, crowd pleasers for their simplicity and feeling of home.

To my Mother or Sarah’s Mum, always their for me and available to problem solve at the drop of a hat. From helping out at events to washing up I am grateful. Your AGA cookery may be more savoury than sweet, but your one pot meals and generous roasts have graced the table on many happy occasions.

To my Sister, you helped me out so much when I started out with the tearoom working most weekends, giving me precious time to grow the business and build my outside catering brand. You also put together an amazing baileys trifle and can demonstrate some fabulous cake decorating skills.

and finally to the youngest member of my family, my Niece. You are the future, you are loved and you are already an amazing happy little girl. Who knows what the future will hold and what Polka dot catering will look like when you’ve grown up. I look forward to day’s when your old enough for us to bake together.
